Asia Pacific
Our clients in the Asia Pacific region include US, UK and local law firms in jurisdictions such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Bangkok and PRC, and Indonesia. All of these locations will consider recruiting overseas lawyers particularly from other common law jurisdictions such as United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand and also US qualified attorneys.
Languages are now becoming more than just useful and in some cases are now essential. Bi-lingual Mandarin and English is virtually a necessity for all PRC driven work. Japanese is becoming more essential for capital markets and corporate lawyers in Tokyo.
As in the UK market, the international law firms in Asia will generally apply a degree of discounting to those lawyers who have qualified in a jurisdiction which does not have the equivalent 2 years articles training to the UK. The discounting will range between 12 to 24 months depending on your ability and type of experience.
